“Message Not Found” Book Review

Riley Freeburg, Reporter/Writer

Over the weekend I read the book “Message Not Found”, it is about a girl’s best friend who dies but when her death doesn’t add up the girl decides to try and uncover her best friend’s secrets for closure. She uncovers more and more during her grieving until we find out that what we thought was the answer all along was just another cover up.
Like most people, Bailey(the main character) had only good memories and a perfect image of her best friend when she passed; Bailey never thought her best friend could do anything mean or remotely wrong. This is why she refused to see the truth about Vanessa(Bailey’s best friend). In the end Bailey ends up angry and heartbroken due to problems Vanessa had created. Overall there is not much more I can tell you about the story without spoilers, so I’m just going to move on to what I thought about the book.
The format of the book was different from most books; it had both full and half pages as well as pages just reciting dialogue from the text messages between people. I personally found this format a lot easier to understand and decipher what each part of the story was emphasizing. I say this because if the text conversations were implanted in with the normal writing it would be a little confusing considering it would just randomly switch writing styles.
I would overall rate this book somewhere in between a 3.5-4 out of 5. It was not bad but I have read better and some of the parts were just really unnecessary and can make you not want to finish it. It was also very mellow compared to some of the other plot twists in books I’ve read. It’s not something I would go around recommending with all my heart’s content but I wouldn’t tell you not to read it either. Like I said, it’s not bad so some people might like it more than others depending on their taste.
You can find this book on Amazon or at some book stores if you wish to read it for yourself!
