STAAR Testing

April 5, 2022
The school year is coming to an end, fast. STAAR testing is within the next month for 8th grade. If you don’t know what STAAR testing is I’ll break it down for you, it’s basically 50 question tests that each grade takes over the subject that the state decides that year. STAAR tests also decide whether or not you move onto the next grade level depending on your grade. 8th grade takes a STAAR over every core subject, reading/writing, science, math, and social studies.
Another important test 8th graders will be taking this year is the Math EOC(End of Course). This test is for pace math students to move onto the next math after Algebra 1. This test is even more important than the STAAR test because it is a high school test since Algebra is a high school math and high school test scores go on your record for colleges.
“I feel like the STAAR this year will be a bit more challenging this year but I’m ready” said Aria Gardner an 8th grader here at RBMS after being asked if not doing the STAAR last year will affect her performance or not. I think not having the STAAR last year will definitely have an affect on other students as well. Aria also said, “I think I’m going to do bad because I’ve learned nothing” when asked how she thinks she will do this year on the test.
I really think last year took a toll on the productivity of students this year since they could just cheat or not pay attention during class, but have to actually learn this year. I mean obviously not everyone cheated but online schooling really skyrocketed the numbers of those who did since they didn’t have someone supervising and could just switch tabs if wanted. It’s hard to put in the work when you are so accustomed to taking the easy way out. Just make sure to wish your friends good luck this upcoming week for this hard test since it is less than a month away!
