Getting Out Early

Getting Out Early

Khalyn Jones, Reporter/Writer

Almost every Wednesday we have an early release where we get out of school two hours early, but why? It’s so the teachers can work on what they need to and get their lesson plans ready. Teachers have to stay back like a normal day, and they don’t leave until 4:00 PM. I feel like more students like this than teachers.

I wanted to know how the teacher and student felt about it. First I started my intervention off with 7th grader Emma Krasniqi, “Yes I do like early release days. I do think that we should be more than just once a week but I would not change anything else.” This makes for longer work hours for teachers and shorter school days for students so it’s a win-lose some might say. “Yes, I do like early release days, no I would not change anything because it benefits the teachers and lets the students get out in the middle of the day with hope and prosperity.” 8th grader Joshua Grimes said.

I started to talk to teachers about the early release and to see if they like it, hoping that we would get more positive responses than negative. First I interviewed 7th grade teacher Ms. Rios and she said, “They’re good but I would make them on Friday instead of Wednesday.” People would be loud and rowdy, and the teachers would have a hard time controlling them. They would be too ready to go home, and the teacher would still have to stay back.
